FRESH! Here
are a few things that we here at Sarcastic find, well... fresh!
Our friend Justin will DJ at the Five Stars Bar in downtown LA on Saturday, February 12th. This is a Sarcastic co-produced event, a collaboration between BooBoo (DTMC) & Sarcastic. This is a show not to be missed!
We met Justin though Eric D. (of Rub N Tug) in 2004. The Sarcastic connection story goes: In 2002, Justin was living in NYC and was in a band called OutHud. They were the band playing at the Passerby gallery/bar before a party that Rub N Tug were DJing at.
At that time they didn't know each other, but Justin stayed to the end of the party and they all eventually became friends. Then a little later, Justin would fill in sometimes at the regular "Campfire" party at the Passerby when the boys were out of town. Besides Out Hud, Justin was also producing/mixing/playing bass in the "indie dance" band !!! (chk chk chk). Eventually Justin asked the RNT guys to remix a single for !!! and later for Out Hud as well. He also played on the soon to be released RNT album & frequently plays bass on dr. dunks productions.
After !!! & out hud, Justin released an edit called "Get To My Baby" on Golf Channel recordings under the Try To Find Me name which has become a Sarcastic disco classic.
He has released his own productions, edits & mix CD on golf channel & Black Disco – "Clapping Song" on Golf Channel & "Vandervolgen's haunted house" on Black Disco. Justin is also co-producer with Doug Lee (who is also a graphic designer and has done logos & graphics for Sarcastic Clothing) in a project called TBD.
Justin has numerous DJ mixes online but has gotten a lot of recognition and mention from his "Try To Find Me Vol. 2" mix cd (link RA) which came out recently on Golf Channel. One of our favorite mixes of the last few years!
Yes, he has released all these different things, but really he's just a
damn good DJ & we like his music.

MORE OFFICIAL BIO FROM RESIDENT ADVISOR
Justin Vandervolgen has a history spanning the last 13 years in the dance/disco community. Being one of the founding members and producer of the bands !!! and Outhud as well as remixing for labels such as Warp, EMI and Output. In 2003 Justin produced the !!! record “Me and Guliani down by the schoolyard” which became a UK dance chart hit and helped to bring the emerging early 2000’s sound of NY dance music to the rest of the world. It was in 2001 when Justin moved to NY that he started dj’ing more and playing some of the best parties and after hours spots in the city.
Early 2008 saw Justin leaving !!!, (Outhud disbanded in 2005) to focus on producing, remixing and dj’ing. 2009 saw the release of a 2 projects one with Lee Douglas called TBD which produced the massive hit What is This, and his own now classic edit series titled "Try to find Me" on Golf Channel Recordings. 2010 will see the release of his own solo productions, various remixes and edits as well as new TBD material.

We recently got these promos from Eric
Duncan, on the newly formed Rong label out of NY. Rong is Ben Cook
(Deep Fuzz, Triangle Orchestra) and DJ Spun (SF expatriate, now NY resident).
Both the records above were put together by How & Why? –-- a team-up of Spun and Eric (who is known for co-hosting the
now-infamous NYC Rub & Tug loft parties).
The re-edits 12" is a strictly promotional item, so be on the lookout
for it.
The Cruising 12" is the 2nd release on Rong. This time around, H&W? had help from Daniel Wang on keys and Steven
Hall on guitar (avant-garde dude who played with Arthur Russell). Additional
production from Olivier Spencer (Crack & Speed, Mr. Negative). There's
also a remix from Rong's Ben Cook & Corey Black (Triangle Orch). Check
it out!
Thanks to Eric D and Spun for hooking us up.

The
RMN keeps cranking them out! This time around,
DJ Kent (Force of Nature) is dropping a mid-tempo mix
of JAMS on one disc of a 2cd set that's shared with
Sly Mongoose (who Kent has remixed as well). Mongoose's
mix is nice rocksteady and early reggae, but we're only
putting Kent's
mix up because we jock him.
The Spinning Meanmachine KZA
from Force of Nature
drops his latest mix cd. Late 70s underground disco
and rare early hip-hop. "Support the defend the disco
